Healthy Families works to eliminate hunger & address nutrition-related issues that impact a household's budget, children's performance in school & the overall physical health of families. Through services within Healthy Families, households learn a variety of tools that help them implement changes to food budgeting & preparation and lead families on a road to healthier living. Providing families the opportunity to secure groceries weekly through the food pantry eliminates impossible choices that food insecure households throughout the U.S. are forced to make; choosing between food & safe housing; food and health care; or food & child care.”
A fun series of six classes (offered in the Fall & Spring) that include interactive cooking and nutritional education. The Create Your Plate nutrition course will covers meal preparation, food safety, & sensible food shopping. It is free to all LCAC clients and the course also provides many bonuses:
• You will receive ingredients for the recipes demonstrated in the class in order to replicate the recipes at home. • You will receive a grocery gift card after completing four weeks of class! • You will earn a graduation certificate. • If you meet the requirements for graduation you will receive various cookware items as a graduation gift!
Graduate Nutrition Course:
Offered to graduates of the basic courses & includes instruction on self-care, exercise & wellness.
The objective of LCAC’s Clean Start program is to provide personal care items for individuals and families to not only improve their quality of life, but also to free-up their income for other basic household expenses (gas, school supplies, utilities, etc.). Specifically, our goal is to provide 400 families (based on a four person household) with one bag of personal care items on a monthly basis. Personal care items include:
