ABOUT US

Mission Statement

To enhance the quality of life by providing food, basic needs, and self-sufficiency programs through the generous support of our community.

What We Do

LCAC’s goal is to break the cycle of poverty and prevent homelessness through a variety of services and programs.

The Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) provides low-income individuals, senior citizens, and families residing in Fort Belvoir, Lorton, and other portions of southeast Fairfax County (zip codes 22060 and 22079) with access to basic needs and the opportunity to empower themselves through LCAC’s self-sufficiency programs. LCAC strives to connect people with other programs in the area that will have a positive impact on a family’s long-term “health.”

LCAC, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 1975.  Since then, its programs and services have continued to expand and now comprise Emergency Food, Sustainability, Bridging, and All Can Be Healthy (ACBH) programs. These programs address food and nutritional needs, provide utility and rental assistance to prevent homelessness, offer educational programs that help lead clients to self-sufficiency, and ensure access to better health.

LCAC relies on partnerships to carry out its programming and sustain its pantry.  In addition, volunteers play an integral role in all aspects of LCAC’s programs and services.  We serve over 500 registered families each year.
