Pantry Plus is a new program at LCAC, supported by the Capital Area Food Bank, designed specifically for pantry clients who have been diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension. The goal of this initiative is to provide nutritious, healthy foods to at-risk clients.
We are beginning this program with a small group of households. These clients have undergone a thoughtful selection process to ensure the program is targeting those who will benefit the most. This effort has been made possible through the work of Elizabeth Hernandez, Health Navigator, who has been meeting directly with clients, discussing their health needs, and identifying those who would be strong candidates for Pantry Plus. Director of Nutrition Joshua Henry’s role is to procure and distribute the nutritious items chosen for the program.
Over the first two weeks of this program, we’ve provided participants with olive oil and strawberries. Pantry Plus represents an important step in expanding our commitment to health equity, and we look forward to watching this program grow!
