LCAC receives grant for healthy food provisions

The Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) received a $60,000 grant from Sentara Health in December to help with pantry services, to support emergency food needs and fight food insecurity.

This isn’t the first time the health system has funded LCAC. Back in late 2023, Sentara presented the Lorton nonprofit with a $50,000 check for its “All Can Be Healthy Initiative.” Since then, Sentara has shifted toward healthy foods, so that’s what the health system is funding with the new grant, according to LCAC Executive Director Rob Rutland-Brown.

“Expanding access to healthy food like quality protein, fresh fruits, and vegetables, helps people avoid choices that can lead to obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure,” said Rutland-Brown.
