Seasonal Assistance

LCAC is here to help individuals and families throughout the year. Holidays and the beginning of the school year are particularly challenging times for low income families. LCAC offers seasonal assistance to help families during these difficult periods.

LCAC provides four seasonal outreaches each year for the families we serve:

Back 2 School                                     Thanksgiving

Warm Coat                                          Christmas

We need hundreds of volunteers to help with these outreaches, and utilize more than $250,000 in non-cash donations each year to reach the thousands of individuals in need in our area. Read on to learn how YOU can help your neighbors!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Back to School is an exciting time in the life of a child and their parents! However for many low income families in Southeast Fairfax County it can be extremely stressful as families worry about how they will afford the necessary school supplies. YOU (and your friends, colleagues, neighbors, book club, faith-based group – you get the idea!) can help minimize the worry and ensure a confident start to the school year for local children by donating a new backpack and supplies. LCAC anticipates serving more than 500 children and teens through our 2018 Back2School program thanks to this wonderful community!

  • Adopt a child/teen or several served by LCAC through our Sign up Genius lists.
  • Donations may be dropped off at 2 locations: INOVA Lorton Healthplex or the Moose Family Center (donation drop off final date is Saturday, August 18th from 10am to noon). Want to make drop off faster that Saturday? Print out and complete our B2S donation form.
  • INOVA Lorton Healthplex donations may be dropped off beginning Monday, August 6th – Friday, August 17th. The Healthplex is located at 9321 Sanger Street, Lorton.
  • If you are in need of a tax donation receipt, please email Linda Patterson, Linda@LortonAction.org or call 703/339-5161, ext. 140 with the value and your contact information.
  • ALL “adoptions” from Sign Up Genius and group adoptions (faith communities, organizations and businesses) must be received by Saturday, August 18th in order for the donation to be matched up to a child/teen in need.
  • Volunteer information is through our online volunteer portal.
  • Supply lists: Click on the grade to download and view the PDF.
    • Print out the Supply List for each grade you are filling and check the appropriate gender on the left side of each list.
