USA Today Visits LCAC

USA Today visited LCAC's food pantry and shared some stories about hunger in the community!

As part of a series that coincides with the release of the Hunger in America study, LCAC was featured in USA Today on Monday, August 18 in print and online. The story focuses on food insecurity and the important role food pantries play in feeding our community. A few facts about people who use food banks:
  • 43% are white, 26% are black, 20% are Hispanic and 11% are other
  • 33% of households have at least one family member with diabetes
  • 65% of households have a child under 18 or someone 60 or older (Source: USA Today, August 17, 2014)

Washington Post article captures the story

Robert McCartney's column in Sunday's Washington Post highlight's the demand for food in Fairfax County and the vital role that nonprofits - like LCAC - play in ensuring that local families have food on the table.  Click HERE to read the story.  Mr. McCartney visited LCAC last week to see first-hand how LCAC's food program works and he talked to several clients, who graciously shared their stories.
